King’s Gate Christian School, Mother’s Day Out and Super Summer are
“Allergy Friendly Programs.”
We do the following to help provide a safer environment for children with nut allergies:
-
Training is provided so staff can recognize allergic reactions and administer an epi-pen.
-
An “Allergy Friendly Safe List” is available to assist parents when providing shared snacks and treats. Click on the blue snack bucket to see the “Allergy Friendly Snack” list.
-
Safe Tables are designated during lunchtime for children who have allergies.
-
Parents are encouraged to partner with another family who is willing to pack a peanut-free lunch so their child will have a “Lunch Buddy.” If your child does not have a nut allergy and you are willing to pack a lunch that is nut-free, please notify the classroom teacher. Click on the lunchbox to see a list of ideas for a Lunch Buddy lunch.
*If you have any questions about Safe Snacks or Special Occasion Treats or about what it means to be an Allergy Friendly Program, please feel free to call the office, 752-2111.
HELP OUR CLASSROOMS BE ALLERGY FRIENDLY
Some parents have shared their concerns about the King’s Gate classrooms becoming Allergy Friendly. We have worked hard to ensure that this is not a burden on the families. We will send home a snack bucket with your child the day before they are “snack friend.” There is a list with the bucket to help you as you pick the snack. The list is very specific in order to help make the shopping easy. Since the snacks are shared with all the children in the class, it is important that the snacks do not have nuts or traces of nuts. Snack Friend is a long-standing tradition at King’s Gate and we want to continue the fun. If you would like King’s Gate to provide the snack on your child’s snack day, please let us know one week in advance and we would be glad to provide the snack. It is our desire that King’s Gate would be a safe place for every child, including the children at King’s Gate with nut allergies. The number of children being born with nut allergies is increasing at a dramatic rate. Hopefully food manufacturers will begin to consider this fact and begin to work towards protecting children against cross-contamination exposure to nuts. Until then, we can work together to protect all children. We thank all of our families for helping make King’s Gate a safer environment for all of our children Thank you so much!!!
SNACK FRIEND AND SAFE SNACK LIST
In each class, the children will take turns serving as “Snack Friend”. On your child’s “Snack Friend” day, they are invited to bring one show and tell item to share with the class, and we ask that they bring a snack from the SAFE SNACK LIST to share with their class. Show and tell items can be anything that is special to them that they would like to show to their class. We ask that you not send army or war toys such as action figures from cartoons or movies that depict fighting or violence (For example, power rangers or Yugio). A snack calendar will be sent home at the beginning of the year. Again, in order to help provide a safer environment for our students with peanut allergies, we ask that ALL snacks be from the SAFE SNACK LIST.
Thank you so much for your efforts toward ensuring a Allergy Friendly Facility! This requires effort from every family. It makes such a difference to offer a safer environment for children with life threatening allergies. Thank you so much for helping us make King’s Gate a safer place for all our children!
*If you have any questions about Safe Snacks or Special Occasion Treats please feel free to call Ms. Wyndi, 752-2111.
