Our History
Our Lord's Community Church was established in 1976 with fifty charter members. This community of believers grew rapidly and in 1986 moved to our current facility on Portland Avenue. Our Lord's is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America, the oldest active denomination in the United States with a continuous ministry.
The RCA grew out of the Protestant Reformation as influenced by Martin Luther and John Calvin. Both Luther and Calvin believed that the church should be reformed and always reforming according to the Word of God.
When Calvin's theology went to Scotland, it resulted in the formation of the Presbyterian Church. When it went into the Netherlands it resulted in the formation of the Dutch Reformed Church.
The Dutch Reformed Church established its first congregation in America in 1628. In 1867 the Dutch Reformed Church in America changed its name to The Reformed Church in America. We are approximately 1000 congregations in the United States.
